Esta é a primeira aparição do mágico no cinema. Anteriormente, ele apareceu na série Mandrake, O Mágico (1939) e no telefilme Mandrake (1979).

The original Mandrake was a horrifying character. He turned a man into a rat, turned nine men into sticks, changed people’s heads to stone and at one point began to tear an entire kingdom to the ground until it’s king acquiesced. He even managed to raise from the dead an Egyptian who had been dead over 7000 years.

[2] In deutschen Veröffentlichungen heißt die Figur „Mandra“ und erschien erstmals 1965 in zwei Heften beim Mauerhardt Verlag . 1967 bis 1968 erschienen sechs Hefte bei Semic Press unter dem Titel Mandra, der Zauberer und 1980 erschien eine Ausgabe Mandra, der Magier beim Condor Verlag .
