To read Functional Analysis, I think 1-10 is a must. 1-3, 6-8: essential measure theory that will be used for sure. 4-5: a quick tour to functional analysis, emphasising what you would learn in this book. 9: Fourier transform. No reason to ignore this. 10: absolutely essential complex analysis, many of which will be used in Functional Analysis.

He married Sara Lise Levi and the third of their children, Robert (born 7 January 1891) was Walter's father. Rudin was the master. My understanding is that this is the third of his books and I certainly got that impression. It is written well but I wouldn't think it to be a good first book on functional analysis. Having said that, if one desires to master the subject, reading this book and working the problems therein will do exactly that.
