On his death "The Era" wrote : "Our readers will hear with regret but without surprise of the death of poor Charles Chaplin, the well-known mimic and music-hall comedian. Of late years, poor Chaplin was not fortunate and good engagements, we are afraid, did not often come his way. He was buried at Tooting on Monday 13th. May at 12.30.
