Ludovic Halévy (1 January 1834 – 7 May 1908) was a French author and playwright, best known for his collaborations with Henri Meilhac on Georges Bizet's Carmen and on the works of Jacques Offenbach.

A particular place was alloted to Degas, justified by his long friendship with Ludovic and Louise Halévy, which the Dreyfus affair failed to disrupt completely, and the lifetime interest Daniel Halevy had for the painter.

His heart, though, was in his writing. In 1855 he had his first success with Ba-ta-clan, a one-act “Chinese Musical,” with music by Jacques Offenbach.
