Biobibliographical Notes. Doris Lessing was born on 22 October 1919 to British parents in Kermanshah in what was then known as Persia (now Iran) as Doris May Taylor. Her father, Alfred Cook Taylor, formerly a captain in the British army during the First World War, was a bank official. Her mother, Emily Maude Taylor, had been a nurse.

25 de mai. de 2023 · Doris Lessing was born after the First World War, in 1919, in what is now present-day Iran. Her father was injured in the war, which traumatised both her parents. In an interview with TIME magazine, Lessing recalled that upon returning to England her father detested the small scale of his surroundings and bought land in what was then Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe).

During the postwar years, Lessing became increasingly disillusioned with the Communist movement, which she left altogether in 1954. By 1949, Lessing had moved to London with her young son.
