Peter Medawar. Sir Peter Brian Medawar (d. 28 Şubat 1915 - ö. 2 Ekim 1987), Brezilyalı / İngiliz biyolog. Graft reddi ve kazanılmış immün tolerans ile ilgili keşifleri organ nakli uygulamalarında önemli bir yer edinmiştir. 1960 yılında Nobel Fizyoloji veya Tıp Ödülü 'ne Sir Frank Macfarlane Burnet ile birlikte layık görüldü.

In 1953, Peter Brian Medawar (1915–1987) demonstrated immunological tolerance through tissue transplantation experiments. 1 Although it had been known that mammals, including humans, could not accept tissues grafted from different individuals, Medawar discovered that they could be induced to accept a foreign body if its cells had been introduced into them in utero.

Em 28 de fevereiro de 2015, celebramos o centenário do nascimento de Peter Brian Medawar, brasileiro nato, que se tornou um dos maiores cientistas do século XX e foi agraciado com o prêmio Nobel de Medicina, em 1960. Peter nasceu em Petrópolis, estado do Rio de Janeiro, fato que lhe conferiu cidadania brasileira.
