Biografia. Filho único de Sir Marc Brunel (de origem francesa que fugiu para Inglaterra devido à Revolução), e pai do engenheiro Henry Marc Brunel.Ele nasceu em Portsmouth a 9 de Abril de 1806, onde o seu pai estava a trabalhar nos estaleiros da Royal Navy na construção da uma fabrica de moitões.
The original Brunel Collection was given to the University of Bristol Library by Isambard Kingdom Brunel's granddaughter, Lady Celia Noble, in 1950. This makes up the bulk of the collection, and includes letter books, sketchbooks, calculation books, documents and drawing instruments of Isambard Kingdom Brunel, as well as papers of Isambard Brunel Junior, Sir Marc Brunel and Henry Marc Brunel.
