He was editor (1940–45) of the socialist Tribune magazine. As minister of health (1945–51) in the post-war Labour government, Bevan introduced (1948) the National Health Service.

Aneurin “Nye” Bevan was born in 1897 in Tredegar in south Wales, where he grew up in a coal mining community. In 1928 Nye was elected as Labour MP for Ebbw Vale. He served as Minister of Health in Atlee’s post-war Labour Government. Nye worked hard on forming the National Health Service, which started on 5 th July 1948.
