Although the warden, guards and prisoners all try to break Luke's spirit upon his arrival, it soon becomes clear that Luke is not about to play by anyone else's rules.

Indeed, Donn Pearce was a character with some interesting stories to tell. Pearce was hired by Jack Lemmon’s company, Jalem Productions, to write a screenplay, which Jalem planned to make into a film, with Jack Lemmon himself in the title role.

Revisited the magnificent COOL HAND LUKE as part of the "Kate's Never Seen It" List. This is one of my all-time favorite movies. Newman's performance is flawless, and you almost hear the primal scream of America circa 1967 ringing underneath the movie.
