9 de dez. de 2015 · In 1851 publiceerde Herman Melville de klassieker Moby-Dick, waarin kapitein Ahab geobsedeerd raakt door een vernielzuchtige witte walvis. Zijn roman zou geïnspireerd zijn op het waargebeurde verhaal van de Essex, een schip dat tijdens de walvisjacht in 1820 vernield werd door zo'n witte walvis. Ron Howard poetste dat oorsprongverhaal een beetje op en maakte er een groots Hollywood-avontuur van.
