Revathi’s Salaam Venky is a weepy melodrama that didn’t really need to be one. It tries so hard at every single turn to pull your heartstrings. Every scene, the performances and the score all feel like they are begging you to cry. When a filmmaker resorts to this style it makes one feel that they don’t trust their material.
