SAN FRANCISCO – Senior Circuit Judge Mary M. Schroeder, of the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, received the John Minor Wisdom Award from the American Law Institute (ALI) at their annual meeting held May 22, 2023.
Justice Schroeder is currently a Senior Circuit Judge with her chambers in Phoenix, Arizona and ranks 4th in seniority of the 49 members of the 9th Circuit. Justice Schroeder began her legal career when women attorneys (let alone judges) were a rarity in the United States and was among the Women Trailblazers who inspired a generation of women to begin their legal studies.
22 de mai. de 2023 · Mary M. Schroeder was elected to the Institute in 1974 and served on ALI’s Council from 1994 to 2016. As a Council member, she chaired the Awards Committee from 2009 to 2013.

The Honorable Mary M. Schroeder served as Chief Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit from December 2000 through November 2007, and she has been on that court since 1979. Judge Schroeder previously served on the Arizona Court of Appeals and practiced law in Phoenix.
In sum, Chief Judge Mary Schroeder deserves substantial credit for successfully addressing a number of complexdifficulties that confronted the Ninth Circuit over her seven-year tenure. Judge Schroeder, accordingly, turns over the leadership reins to Judge Kozinski at a time when the court is in excellent shape, so that he can build on her numerous successes.
