29 de mai. de 2024 · Rafer Johnson made his decathlon début in 1954 and the next year won the Pan American Games title and set the first of his three world decathlon records. Johnson, who competed for UCLA and the Southern California Striders, won the AAU decathlon in 1956, 1958, and 1960 and after placing second to Milt Campbell at the 1956 Olympics, never lost another decathlon.

2 de dez. de 2020 · To honor the legacy of both Rafer and Betsy, in October 2019, UCLA named the track at Drake Stadium the Betsy and Rafer Johnson Track. At the ceremony, Block said that UCLA’s 100th anniversary was a time to reflect on who had shaped this world-class institution, and that Rafer and Betsy Johnson — both Bruins — were high on the list.
