The Hobarts had been settled in Norfolk and Suffolk for many years, when in 1728 John Hobart, who was a son of Sir Henry Hobart, the 4th baronet (d. 1698), was created Baron Hobart of Blickling. In 1740 Hobart became lord-lieutenant of Norfolk and in 1746 earl of Buckinghamshire, his sister, Henrietta Howard, countess of Suffolk, being the mistress of George II.

Portrait of the 4th Baronet Henry Hobart. Charles II conferred a knightehood on Henry when a child. He was ultimately to inherit the Blickling estate in debt and to die by the sword in a duel. His portrait by Sir Godfrey Kneller is a fine portrait of one owner of Blickling who was not able to fulfill his ambitions for the estate.
Sir Henry Hobart, 4th Baronet (c. 1658 – 21 August 1698) was an English politician. The son of Sir John Hobart, 3rd Baronet and Mary Hampden was knighted in Blickling in Norfolk , by King Charles II on 29 September 1671 and succeeded to his father's baronetcy on 22 August 1683 .
