Between 1584 and 1593 there is a gap in Knollys’s parliamentary career caused by his service abroad as an emissary and as a soldier under the Earl of Leicester, Lettice Knollys’s second husband, by whom he was knighted. The parliamentary journals do not mention Knollys until 1l2 Dec. 1584, when he was named to a committee concerning sheriffs.
