The Bassae Frieze, a high relief marble form in 23 panels at the Temple of Apollo Epicurius, erected in the mid-to late-5th century BC, depicts scenes from the Trojan War.

Her name translates as let loose and a horse, words which have largely positive connotations as the ancient Greeks revered horses as strong, precious, and almost holy animals. Hippolyta is best known as a queen of the Amazons.

22 de ago. de 2021 · Penthesilea wasn’t the first queen of the Amazons, she’s just our most famous queen. Before Penthesilea ruled her sister, Hippolyte, was queen — although according to some mythology, Penthesilea supposedly killed her. Whether this was an accident or on purpose we don’t actually know, given the surviving texts differ in their narratives.
