22 de jun. de 2021 · Scotland's new lord advocate has said she will act "independently" after she was sworn in as the country's most senior law officer at the Court of Session in Edinburgh. Dorothy Bain QC and Solicitor General for Scotland Ruther Charteris QC were approved by the Scottish Parliament last week and received their royal warrants from the Queen on Friday.

The Victims, Witnesses, and Justice Reform (Scotland) Bill would create the separate sexual offences court, as well as provide legal anonymity to the victims of sexual offences and pilot judge-only rape trials, if passed.

30 de mai. de 2023 · The Daily Record reports that a freedom of information request reveals that Ms Bain has attended Cabinet 40 times, mostly when Nicola Sturgeon was in charge. Cabinet met 24 times in 2021 following her appointment and the Lord Advocate was there on 17 occasions. In 2022, she attended 18 of 41 Cabinet meetings and was at five of 14 this year.
