Salisbury District Brigade. The Salisbury District Brigade was an administrative division of the North Carolina militia during the American Revolutionary War (1776–1783). This unit was established by the Fourth North Carolina Provincial Congress on May 4, 1776, and disbanded at the end of the war.
Brigadier General Charles McDowell. The Morgan District Brigade was an administrative division of the North Carolina militia during the American Revolutionary War. This unit was established by the North Carolina Provincial Congress on May 17, 1782, and disbanded at the end of the war. The commander was Brigadier General Charles McDowell.
When the Salisbury District Brigade was created on May 4, 1776, the Rowan County Regiment was included in this brigade and Col Rutherford assumed command of the brigade. On May 9, 1777, the 2nd Rowan County Regiment was renamed as the Burke County Regiment, and the 1st Rowan County Regiment reverted to its original name—the Rowan County Regiment.
Warren County Regiment. The Warren County Regiment was established on January 3, 1779 by the North Carolina General Assembly when Bute County and its Regiment of militia were abolished. The regiment was engaged in battles and skirmished in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia. [1]
The regiment was engaged in battles and skirmishes against the British during the American Revolution in Tennessee and South Carolina between 1780 and 1781. It was active until the end of the war. Part of Sullivan County, North Carolina was ceded by North Carolina to the federal government in 1789 and this became Sullivan County, Tennessee.
Col. Benjamin Herndon. The Wilkes County Regiment was authorized on December 9, 1777 by the Province of North Carolina Congress at the same time that Wilkes County, North Carolina was created from Surry County, North Carolina and Washington District, North Carolina. The regiment was subordinate to the Salisbury District Brigade of militia.
Colonel Henry William Harrington (1779-1780, 2nd colonel): In 1776-1776, he was a Captain in the South Carolina Cheraws District Regiment of militia. In 1777-1779, he was a Captain in the Anson County Regiment. From July to December, he was Brigadier General Pro Tempore and acting commander of the Salisbury District Brigade.
