Curriculum. The Curtis curriculum is designed to meet students where they are in their musical journeys and to offer instruction, guidance, and inspiration as they pursue their goals. Students are given the opportunity to study technique and artistic expression in order to deepen their musicality and nurture their unique voices.
The History. Annual enrollment numbers about 160 students ranging in age from 10 to 26 years old. Mary Louise Curtis Bok, heir to the Curtis Publishing family and an early supporter of Philadelphia’s Settlement Music School, founded the Curtis Institute of Music in 1924 to ensure that America had an advanced conservatory equal to any in Europe.
The Curtis Institute of Music seeks an exceptionally talented and promising student to fill its single position for tuba. Prospective students are welcome to apply to either the undergraduate or graduate program; there is no preference for one over the other, and applicants will be assessed with their age in mind.

Bachelor of Music. The Bachelor of Music degree is given upon completion of a minimum of 133 semester hours (s.h.), as outlined below. Students must fulfill a minimum three-year residency, pass all required courses, and have a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.0 in musical studies and liberal arts courses.
