At the time it became the first new 18 layout to come into play at St Andrews for 80 years and took its name from the adjacent Strathtyrum Estate form which the land was purchased.
The New Course, St Andrews. Designed by Old Tom Morris and opened in 1895, this is hardly a 'new' course! It is, in fact, a classic links course and a first-class golfing challenge.
