I travelled around Sri Lanka for a couple of weeks in September/October 2016 together with a friend. We were at the end of our stay when we reached the lovely Galle and stayed at Pilgrims Villa. Namal, the owner, was very friendly straight away in helping us find the place, and giving us tips on what to do for our time in Galle.
Niet veel mensen weten dat Sri Lanka ooit een Nederlandse kolonie is geweest. In de 17e eeuw bouwden de Nederlandse VOC hun fort in Galle aan de Sri Lankaanse kustlijn, dat later weer is overgenomen door de Britten. De tsunami van 2004 heeft Sri Lanka stevig geraakt maar Galle Fort wist dit natuurgeweld te weerstaan door zijn hoge stadsmuren.
