The regiment was engaged in battles and skirmishes against the British during the American Revolution in Tennessee and South Carolina between 1780 and 1781. It was active until the end of the war. Part of Sullivan County, North Carolina was ceded by North Carolina to the federal government in 1789 and this became Sullivan County, Tennessee .

Halifax County Regiment. The Halifax County Regiment was one of 35 existing North Carolina county militias to be authorized for organization on September 9, 1775, by the North Carolina Provincial Congress. All officers were appointed and commissioned by the provincial congress. This unit was active until the end of the war in 1783.

The Queen's Own Royal West Kent Regiment was a line infantry regiment of the British Army based in the county of Kent in existence from 1881 to 1961. The regiment was created on 1 July 1881 as part of the Childers Reforms, originally as the Queen's Own (Royal West Kent Regiment), by the amalgamation of the 50th (Queen's Own) Regiment of Foot and the 97th (The Earl of Ulster's) Regiment of Foot.
