Louise-Françoise de La Baume le Blanc, duchess de La Vallière was the mistress of King Louis XIV (reigned 1643–1715) from 1661 to 1667. La Vallière, the daughter of a military governor, was appointed maid of honour in 1661 to Louis XIV’s sister-in-law Henrietta Anne of England, Duchess d’Orléans.
Françoise-Louise was called by her second name Louise shortly after her birth and grew up at the Hôtel de la Crouzille in Tours and the and the château de La Vallière in Reugny. Her childhood was marked by a strict Catholic education, during which she received lessons by her aunts Élisabeth and Charlotte, both nuns of the Ordre de Sainte-Ursule, and the early death of her father.

Louise Françoise de La Baume Le Blanc, hertogin van La Vallière (Tours, 6 augustus 1644 — Parijs, 7 juni 1710) was tussen 1661 en 1667 de eerste maîtresse van Lodewijk XIV van Frankrijk. Aan het hof werd er niet geheimzinnig over gedaan dat de Zonnekoning, naast zijn gearrangeerd huwelijk, ook een maîtresse had.
Nacida en 1644 en Manoir de la Vallière, en Tours, la joven Luisa Francisca pasó su infancia en el castillo de Blois en el que su padre estaba al servicio de Gastón de Orleans. En 1661, entró al servicio, como dama de compañía, en la casa de Enriqueta de Inglaterra, primera esposa de Felipe de Francia (1640-1701), hermano del rey.
