From New York Film Academy. At NYFA, students get the practical training and mentorship necessary to develop creative and technical expertise in their chosen craft. In our degree, certificate, and short-term workshops, students create projects and learn how to navigate the creative process from start to finish.
The New York Film Academy was founded by veteran producer Jerry Sherlock in 1992, who produced such classics as The Hunt for the Red October. Encouraged by friends of his who wanted to send their children to film school, but found the prices too costly, Sherlock designed a school that was not only affordable, but more importantly, was founded on the principle of learning by doing.

The workshops are active and creative learning experiences where students participate from home. Throughout the course, students interact with teachers and classmates, creating their own original work and projects. BPPE: The New York Film Academy is approved to operate by the California Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education (BPPE) “Approval” or “approval to operate” means that the institution is compliant with the minimum standards contained in the California Private Postsecondary Education Act of 2009 (as amended) and Division 7.5 of Title 5 of the California Code of Education.
Please note that admission to any New York Film Academy program is based upon applicant information received during the admissions process. If, however, a student, after having been admitted but before starting classes, demonstrates that he or she is not fully prepared to commence studies at the Academy, NYFA will meet with the student to determine a proper course of action.
