Gustav Theodor Fechner. Hijo de un pastor protestante, se trasladó en 1817 a Leipzig para estudiar medicina; allí permaneció ya toda su vida. Una vez doctorado en tal materia, se dedicó, a pesar de las dificultades económicas, a los estudios de física, y en 1834 llegó a profesor titular de esta disciplina en la Universidad de Leipzig.
