4. Charles Vidor’s first of three collaborations with Glenn Ford and Rita Hayworth is a little unfocused. It hangs entirely on Brian Aherne’s big performance as an impulsive, blustery, childishly loving family patriarch; as a result, sometimes it’s a comedy, sometimes it’s a noir, sometimes it’s a courtroom drama.
