As a jobbing writer in Hollywood Kanter scripted such hits as Pocketful of Miracles (1961), Blue Hawaii (1961) and Move Over Darling (1963). He also directed movies including Loving You (1957) but found his greatest success on television, overseeing series such as Julia (1968-71) and Chico and the Man (1974-77).
