EN ROUTE TO BAGHDAD, a film by Simone Duarte, will air nationally on the PBS series Independent Lens, hosted by Edie Falco, on Tuesday, October 18, at 10pm (check local listings). Sophisticated, brilliant and idealistic, Sergio Vieira de Mello is recalled in EN ROUTE TO BAGHDAD as a man of enormous charm and passion.
The event will begin with the screening of a five-minute video clip on Austrian peacekeeping operations, followed by a 15-minute excerpt of the documentary "En Route to Baghdad". This will be followed by a presentation of Peacekeeping Forces Today and Tomorrow , based on the proceedings of the Blue Helmet Forum Austria 2005, which met earlier this year in Reichenau, Austria.

"En Route to Baghdad" does a masterful job showing it. Some may argue that he was just another rich boy who got the chance to do everything that he did, but I beg to differ. Clearly he believed in what he did, repatriating large numbers of Cambodians and bringing peace to East Timor.
