You can, but only a limited number of times, last I checked it was 5. So if you do it too often you could be permanently locked on region 2. When I had a huge tower PC case I actually had two drives, one set to 1 one set to 2, so I could copy from the UK Region 2/PAL disc and make a US one that I could play on my normal DVD player.
