Scientist and author. Margaret Cavendish, Duchess of Newcastle-upon-Tyne ( née Lucas; 1623 – 16 December 1673) was a prolific English philosopher, poet, scientist, fiction writer and playwright. In her lifetime she produced more than 12 original literary works, many of which became well known due to her high social status.
The Cavendish inheritance descended in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries through the female line, passing first from Henry Cavendish, 2nd Duke of Newcastle upon Tyne (1630-1691) to his daughter, Margaret (1661-1716) who married John Holles, 4th Earl of Clare (1662-1711).

Margaret Holles, duquesa de Newcastle-upon-Tyne (de soltera Cavendish; 22 de octubre de 1661-24 de diciembre de 1715/16, Londres) fue una noble inglesa. Margaret nació como la tercera hija y la cuarta de seis hijos de Henry Cavendish, segundo duque de Newcastle-upon-Tyne y su esposa, Frances Pierrepoint.
