Sir Winston Churchill FRS (18 April 1620 – 26 March 1688), known as the Cavalier Colonel, was an English soldier, historian, and politician. He was the father of John Churchill, 1st Duke of Marlborough and a direct ancestor of his namesake Winston, who served as British prime minister in the 20th century during the Second World War.
Sir Winston Churchill, genannt „der Ältere“, (* 18. April 1620; † 26. März 1688) war ein royalistischer Offizier im Königreich England, später Parlamentsmitglied und Historiker. Er gilt als Begründer der Familie Churchill, aus der der 1874 geborene spätere Premierminister des Vereinigten Königreichs Winston Churchill hervorging.

He died on 26 Mar. 1688, and was buried at St. Martin in the Fields. Despite his years of court service, he had increased his estate by only a couple of small purchases, and he died in debt. Churchill, Sir Winston (1620–88), politician, was baptised on 18 April 1620, eldest surviving son of John Churchill, deputy registrar of chancery, of Whootton Glanville, Dorset, England, and his first wife, Sarah Winston of Standistone, Gloucestershire, daughter and coheir of Sir Henry Winston.
