In this, the final volume of his landmark survey of the piano works of Elisabeth Lutyens, pianist Martin Jones presents further world premiere recordings from this undeservedly neglected composer. Featuring works from across the span of Lutyen's career, the earliest works to be included on this album are the short pieces Overture, Berceuse, Barcarolle and Dance Souvenance from 1944.
Determined to be a composer from the age of 9, Elisabeth Lutyens went to Paris in 1922 to study at the Ècole Normale de Musique in Paris. On her return to London, she studied composition and the viola at the Royal College of Music from 1926-30.

Elisabeth Lutyens gilt als erste britische Komponistin, die die Zwölftontechnik verwendete. Nach eigenen Angaben entwickelte sie ihre Reihentechnik unabhängig von der Schönberg-Schule aus ihren Studien der „String Fantasias“ von Henry Purcell; ihre Bekanntschaft mit Edward Clark dürfte jedoch ebenfalls maßgeblich zu dieser Entwicklung beigetragen haben.
