Pater Clemens Faller aus dem Elsass, seit 1852 Provinzial der deutschen Ordensprovinz, gründete 1856 in Feldkirch das Jesuitenkolleg „Stella Matutina“. Pater Faller, ein ehemaliger Freiburger Kollegszögling, erwarb in Feldkirch eine neu gebaute, aber ungenutzte Kaserne.

From here, he went on to Stonyhurst College (of which he had few happy memories) before leaving in 1875 to spend a year studying at the Stella Matutina in Fedlkirch, Austria, to improve his German language skills.
