James D. Wallace was born on May 21, 1937, in Troy, New York, United States, to Donald F. Wallace and Jane P. Wallace. Education Wallace graduated from Amherst College as a Bachelor of Arts in 1959. Four years later he received his Doctor of Philosophy degree from Cornell University.

James D. Wallace's book, first published in 1977, was a real pleasure to read. It has clarified and sharpened my outlook. It's an invaluable resource. I'll undoubtedly read it again and again. (Quick little side note: Mr. Wallace is a PhD, according to the book's back flap, but he doesn't use the honorific, Dr., in describing himself.
