It's ok to say your favorite Tolkien story is the Children of Hurin over LotR. If LotR was told in the same brevity, it'd be easier to compare the quality of the story itself. Children of Turin, Beren and Lúthien and maybe the Fall of Númenor. Or even better, all of them.
