Sadly, Isabella would die around fifteen years later, at the age of 34, probably of bubonic plague, which left Rubens devastated. Their first child, Clara Serena, also died prematurely at only 12 years old. Their sons lived on into adulthood: Albert became a scholar and philologist, and Nicolaas became Lord of Rameyen.

In 1643, he purchased the Herrikheit of Rameyen (or Ramey) with property inherited from his father. Lamayen Castle was his main residence in the parish of Gestel, where he died. His second residence was Hof His Fan His Urselle, an inheritance from his father, which he purchased on May 29, 1627.
