The Twelve Chairs is a bit of an odd beast for the man who would (just four years later) direct two of the greatest comedies in film history. It's not as razor sharp as Blazing Saddles or Young Frankenstein are (or even The Producers, which is a fine film that I appreciate if not particularly love).
