The magazine was founded in 1956 by Tom Margerison, Max Raison and Nicholas Harrison as The New Scientist, with Issue 1 on 22 November 1956, priced at one shilling (a twentieth of a pound in pre-decimal UK currency; equivalent to £1.58 in 2023).

25 de fev. de 2014 · Margerison partnered David Frost to form what became London Weekend Television (LWT), a new Independent Television contractor from August 1968. He was LWT"s first deputy managing director, becoming both chairman and chief executive of the company within two years. Margerison left lWT in 1971.
