Eleanor Nelly Parke Custis Lewis, a stepgranddaughter of George Washington, is the subject of this 1804 portrait by the renowned American artist Gilbert Stuart. Nelly Custis Lewis gave this portrait to Lorenzo Lewis, her only surviving son, in 1836. A family descendant donated the painting to the National Gallery of Art in 1974.
