There are lockers in the ticket office. Unfortunately, there isn’t space for suitcases. For security reasons you may only bring small bags to the palace. Please note that bags must be collected before closing time.
It is not possible to eat at the Amalienborg Museum. You are allowed to take water in clear plastic bottles into the museum.
Because there are many fragile and freestanding objects at the Amalienborg Museum, we ask our guests to observe a few simple precautions. The objects in the museum may not be touched. It is important that you follow the instructions and recommendations of the staff during your visit.
Photography is allowed. Please avoid talking on your mobile phone in the museum, as doing so may disturb the other visitors. You are, however, welcome to use your mobile phone to look at our online guides to the exhibits or for taking pictures.
Young children must be accompanied by an adult inside the museum. Very young children must be carried in a baby carrier on the stomach. Amalienborg is HM The King's winter residence. The Amalienborg complex consists of four palaces, built around an octagonal courtyard, in the centre of which stands the French sculptor J.F.J. Saly’s equestrian statue of Frederik V, the founder of Amalienborg and Frederiksstaden.
In the 1980s the palace was restored as residence for the Crown Prince, storage facilities for the Queen's Reference Library and a museum for the Royal House of Glücksborg. The museum features private royal apartments from 1863 to 1947 including original fittings and furnishings.
Visit the seat of the Danish Royal Family and see the private interiors of the most recent kings and queens. Learn about the history and traditions of the monarchy at Amalienborg Museum, and watch the changing of the guards at noon.
